How did you get into Naturopathic Oncology?
As I was finishing up my final year of college, my mother was facing the end of a long struggle with metastatic breast cancer. For years I watched as she suffered from various treatment side effects. She searched our rural health food store for anything that might help her navigate the symptoms with more ease. She altered her diet, nurtured her faith, and spent every moment she could outside in her garden. As the end drew closer, I became more and more disheartened with conventional medicine. I was no longer dreaming of being a doctor. I needed a break from hospitals, labs and infusion centers. After several years of pondering how medicine could look different, I stumbled upon naturopathic medicine. It seemed too good to be true! I gravitated towards naturopathic oncology along the way and completed a 2 year oncology-focused residency. I am forever grateful that inside of loss I found a new path illuminated.
What do you do during your downtime and/or what do you do for fun?
I am obsessed with gardening! Mainly I love to grow tomatoes and peppers. We make our own hot sauces, canned tomatoes, salsas and chili powders. Gardening bridges my two favorite things, cooking and connecting with nature.
