Chris Ballantine, ND

How did you get into Naturopathic Oncology?

Among some amazing professors, I had at Bastyr in San Diego was Deb Harding, ND, FABNO who inspired me to approach naturopathic oncology with a sophisticated lens. I can still hear her in my head telling me to check the CYP liver metabolism of both the drugs and herbs to ensure the treatments are safe. She is very passionate about this field- and has quite a sense of humor- which influenced me greatly.

I’m very thankful for Margaret Beeson, ND for establishing such a strong relationship with St. Vincent’s in Billings- going on 17 or 18 years now- it is an incredibly valuable experience to practice naturopathic medicine in a conventional cancer care setting.

What do you do during your downtime and/or what do you do for fun?

I love hot yoga, reading novels (I just finished Lucky Jim by Kingsley Amis), jogging outside, skiing (going as fast as possible on downhill racing skis), collecting cowboy vests, drinking matcha lattes, and hanging out with my three cats- the most amazing cats in the world!

What quote sums up your daily practice with patients or guides your practice?

“Whatever works” -John Bastyr, ND
