How did you get into Naturopathic Oncology?

My discovery of naturopathic oncology was a bit of luck and a lot of family history. Growing up the youngest child in a family with older parents, siblings, and extended family, my experience started early. From watching my father endure palliative therapies to helping my sister and mother cope with the grief of losing our father during their cancer diagnoses and treatments, there was a sense of helplessness seeing them placed in a passive role. Once I discovered naturopathic medicine, I was thrilled to see the patient placed in the center of their care and I soon left my career in planning and marketing to pursue naturopathic medicine. During my time at Bastyr, I was placed on an oncology shift with Dr. Craig Peterson and it became clear this was the solution I wish had existed for my family. His patient-centered approach combined with his energy and empathy inspired me to search for residencies that offered naturopathic oncologic care.

What do you do during your downtime and/or what do you do for fun?

In my spare time, I enjoy playing and hiking the 13-acres of forest surrounding my home with my partner Steve and my rescue “pittie” Mack. When I’m not out discovering the art of being a Hoosier or riding my motorcycle, I’m veganizing classic recipes and baking yummy vegan cupcakes, dancing, or playing video games

What are you grateful for?

I am most grateful for my patients, who teach me humility, grace, and the true spirit of humanity.  “One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.” ― Shannon L. Alder
