Sukriti Bhardwaj, ND

How did you get into Naturopathic Oncology?

Growing up, I had always been interested in the field of nutrition and natural medicine. After various research experiences during my undergraduate degree that exposed me to naturopathic medicine and oncology, I developed a strong interest in both fields. Learning about the tremendous impact we could have on quality of life and clinical outcomes by incorporating naturopathic modalities into the care plan of people with cancer inspired me to pursue residency training in naturopathic oncology.

What do you do during your downtime and/or what do you do for fun?

I enjoy staying active and constantly challenging myself with a variety of different workouts including weight training and high-intensity interval training. When I have a little more time on my hands, I like cooking more elaborate meals and finding creative ways to “eat the rainbow”. Staying connected with family and friends is very important to me as well!.

What are you most grateful for in your practice of naturopathic oncology?

It is truly a privilege to work with the people who seek our services during such a critical time in their life. Oftentimes, alongside the extensive integrative management plan that we recommend, we ask that they begin making profound lifestyle changes that are not always easy to undertake. I am grateful for these experiences because they motivate me to consistently lead an active and healthy lifestyle myself so that I can speak from experience when having these conversations with patients. My clinical experiences also inspire me to continually improve my knowledge and skillset so that I am well equipped to serve our oncology patient population in their time of need.

About your clinic:

I practice as a resident naturopathic doctor at the Integrative Cancer Centre within the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. We take a team-based approach in working with our patients by forming professional working relationships with their oncologists and having a variety of practitioners at our centre including an acupuncturist, yoga therapist, psychotherapist, and massage therapist, all under one roof. Our website is www.ccnmicc.ca.
