OncANP Statement of COVID-19 Vaccination
The OncANP endorses COVID-19 vaccination alongside our colleagues in conventional and integrative oncology.
Right now across the US and Canada, we are seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases, as well as hospitalized patients filling ICU’s that are reaching or have surpassed capacity. Crisis care has been activated in many cities and hospitals are running out of resources to the extent they are having to triage and cancel non-emergency services. The majority of these patients are unvaccinated. This has become a challenge for all patients, and especially those who are undergoing cancer treatment, as delaying care due to lack of resources will worsen outcomes. In addition, cancer patients often have compromised immunity due to treatment or underlying health conditions, making them more vulnerable and susceptible to worse outcomes with COVID-19 infection.
With this in mind, the OncANP board of directors supports full vaccination against COVID-19 for all practitioners and patients who are eligible.
We recognize that within the naturopathic community, this may be a difficult topic. We are a diverse group that can often successfully hold differing opinions in our community. However, in response to the current international health care crisis, we urge the naturopathic oncology community who are seeing immune-compromised patients with cancer, to take responsibility and set an example. This is to protect our patients, their families and the community. We urge the membership to voice your support for COVID-19 vaccination for all healthcare practitioners and patients alike.
We welcome you to share your opinions with the OncANP board directly. We would like to know where our members stand and have clear and direct communication on this very important topic.
Sincerely,
OncANP Board of Directors
