Erica Joseph, ND, FABNO

How did you get into Naturopathic Oncology?

As an ND/AOM student at Bastyr University, I found that working with oncology patients was incredibly rewarding. The people I met with cancer diagnoses were complex and they were motivated to improve their health. I found a mentor, Dr. Chad Aschtgen, who practiced naturopathic oncology in a way that was efficient and patient-centered and I soon couldn’t imagine doing any other kind of medicine. I quickly got on the residency track and worked with Dr. Aschtgen to establish a new residency here in Seattle, WA so that I could one day attain my FABNO.

What do you do during your downtime and/or what do you do for fun?

I am an avid yoga practitioner and use this as an outlet both physically and spiritually to continue to develop myself and set an example for my patients. I also spend time with family in Panama when I have the opportunity. I love living in green and luscious Seattle, enjoying all that it has to offer including farmer’s markets, restaurants, coffee shops, and nature!

What are you most grateful for in your practice of Naturopathic oncology?

Every day I get to make friends for a living. I feel incredibly blessed to have so many wonderful patients, and people who I get to spend time with, learning about their health, their lives and how I can help them to feel better and live healthfully, despite a cancer diagnosis.

About your clinic:

I practice at Seattle Integrative Oncology. We have a private practice located in the Eastlake neighborhood in Seattle, WA and I also see patients out of two Providence Oncology facilities, in Everett and in Olympia, WA. I am fortunate to work in an integrative setting and have good relationships with medical, radiation, and surgical oncology providers who I have the honor of collaborating within patient’s care. Our goal at Seattle Integrative Oncology is to continue to provide training opportunities for new graduates and to grow the field of naturopathic oncology through our residency program.
